Zhineng Qigong Theory

Background

Zhineng Qigong adopts attraction methods to stir up the qi mechanism, so as to acquire strong qi quickly and easily.  It combines a meditative mind state using visualization with physical movements. It also enables practitioners to quickly grasp the skill to perform healing by transmitting external qi.

Since its introduction, Zhineng Qigong has produced miraculous results at different levels in healing illnesses, prolongation of life, control of emotion / temper and developing intelligent potential, thereby freeing us of restrictions in our capabilities.

Zhineng Qigong Theory

Zhineng Qigong is based on the unique theory of hunyuan qì 混元气.  Hunyuan qi is a combination of xing 形 (material 质量), 气 (energy 能量) and zhi 质 (message 信息). It is a kind of formless and imageless unique state of matter.  Practising Zhineng Qigong mainly involves human hunyuan qi and nature's most basic hunyuan qi.  The hunyuan qi of human beings is made up of prenatal qi (xian tian qi 先天气 ) and postnatal qi (hou tian qi 后天气).  Human hunyuan qi can be directed by the mind (yinian 意念). The mind can also direct and assimilate external qi including primeval (原始) hunyuan qi into the body.  Once the body has abundance of hunyuan qi, it is able to function properly, efficiently and get rid of sicknesses.
Zhineng Qigong has three different forms of practices; active form (dong gong 动功), meditative form (jing gong 静功) and spontaneous form (zi fa gong 自发功). All three forms guide a practitioner through the training of external hunyuan 外混元 (interaction of qi with the mind outside the body), internal hunyuan 内混元 (interaction of qi with the mind inside the body) and middle hunyuan 中混元 (interaction of the mind in the center of the body), from elementary level to the highest level. All together, there are six sets of practice methods:

External Hunyuan Level

1) Lift Qi Up Pour Qi Down (Peng Qi Guan Ding Fa 捧气灌顶法)

Internal Hunyuan Level

2) The Body Mind Form (Xing Shen Zhuang 形神庄)
3) The Five One Form (Wu Yuan Zhuang 五元庄)

Middle Hunyuan Level

4) Middle Channel Hunyuan (Zhong Mai Hunyuan 中脉混元)
5) Middle Line Hunyuan (Zhong Xian Hunyuan中线混元)
6) Unity With Universe (Fan Ben Gui Yuan 返本归元)

Methods of Teaching

Zhineng Qigong uses three methods of teaching

1

Through the mind
(Xīn Chuán 心传)

The teacher creates qi field by combining external qi and the qi of practioners (zu chang 组场) to form a strong and unified qi field. This allows the teaching and healing in this qi field to be more effective.

2

Through lectures and practice
(Kǒu Chuán 口传)

Zhineng Qigong emphasizes both theories and practice methods.  The emphasis on theories is to let every practitioner understand the reasoning behind the practising methods and, more importantly, it enables every practitioner to establish qigong knowledge / consciousness (yishi 意识), which can be used to guide life activities and strengthen the appreciation of practising.

3

Through demonstrations
(Xíng Chuán 形传)

Every single movement / step in the whole set of practices in Zhineng Qigong are arranged in a rational manner.  Correct execution of the movements facilitates the flow of qi inside the body and there is considerable emphasis on the proper postures and techniques.

Methods of Attracting Qi

A distinctive characteristic of Zhineng Qigong is an open system of qigong that uses external qi for healing.  It uses an attraction method to stir up the qi.  There are three methods of attracting qi as outlined below. It does not involve any special / unique thought (yìniàn 意念 ) activities but uses three methods of attraction to stir up the qi mechanism.

1

Mind attracts qi
(Yì yǐn qì 意引气)

In the external hunyuan stage, Zhineng Qigong uses the mind to attact qi.  The attracted qi is the hunyuan qi of man and nature and not the qi in the meridians.  In attracting qi, thought (yìniàn 意念 ) is not combined with the qi, i.e. we do not have to guide the qi or think of a particular path for the qi to flow.  When yìniàn is placed on the part of the body that requires healing, qi will automatically follow its own path to that part of the body.

2

Movement attracts qi
(Xíng yǐn qì 形引气)

The second module in Zhineng Qigong, the Body Mind Form (Xing Shen Zhuang 形神庄), adopts the "movement attracts qi" method.  This refers to using the body movements to stimulate the flow of qi in the meridians.  The twelve meridians are linked to the respective zang organs (heart, liver, spleen, lungs and kidneys) and fu organs (gall bladder, stomach, salll intestines, large intestines and and other parts of the body.  Hence, when body movement is increased in certain parts of the body, it stirs up the related meridian qi, which can be transported to various parts of the body, causing these body parts to be strengthened.

3

Sound attracts qi
(Yīn yǐn qì 音引气)

The third module of Zhineng Qigong, the Five One Form (Wu Yuan Zhuang 五元庄), adopts the "sound attracts qi" method.  Producing different sounds, the qi within the body can be led to different parts of the body.  For example, in Chinese phonetics (pinyin), the first two tones can cause the qi to move upwards; the last two tones can cause the qi to move downwards; words with the vowels "u" and "ü" which require the mouth to be closed can cause qi to be retained; and words without these vowels that require the mouth to be opened can cause qi to be released.

Lift Qi Up Pour Qi Down
(Peng Qi Guan Ding Fa 捧气灌顶法)

Lift Qi Up and Pour Qi Down is the first form of Zhineng Qigong and the basic form for the prevention and healing of illness. Through physical movements and the use of the mind, external qi is drawn into the body and internal qi is released. The quality and quantity of our bodily qi improve, and the pathways linking us to the qi of nature are opened. Even people with limited mobility or strength can practise it, since the use of the mind is more important than precision of movement. It is an external qi practice.

The Body Mind Form
(Xing Shen Zhuang 形神庄)

Body Mind Form is an internal qi practice that works on the skin, muscles, sinews, tendons and bones, and on the channels through which qi flows.  The unification of body and mind / consciousness is important in the practise of this form. It has great benefits for health and makes the body stronger and more graceful. It also opens the channels so qi flows more smoothly. Its practice enhances mind power and abilities.

The Five One Form
(Wu Yuan Zhuang 五元庄)

The Five One Form adopts the opening and closing of qi of the five internal organs (heart, liver, spleen / pancreas, lung and kidney) to integrate them at the hunyuan place to allow qi and mind to merge as one.  This form uses the open-close and opening of qi orifices through the pronunciation of syllables.
