The teacher creates qi field by combining external qi and the qi of practioners (zu chang 组场) to form a strong and unified qi field. This allows the teaching and healing in this qi field to be more effective.
Zhineng Qigong emphasizes both theories and practice methods. The emphasis on theories is to let every practitioner understand the reasoning behind the practising methods and, more importantly, it enables every practitioner to establish qigong knowledge / consciousness (yishi 意识), which can be used to guide life activities and strengthen the appreciation of practising.
Every single movement / step in the whole set of practices in Zhineng Qigong are arranged in a rational manner. Correct execution of the movements facilitates the flow of qi inside the body and there is considerable emphasis on the proper postures and techniques.
In the external hunyuan stage, Zhineng Qigong uses the mind to attact qi. The attracted qi is the hunyuan qi of man and nature and not the qi in the meridians. In attracting qi, thought (yìniàn 意念 ) is not combined with the qi, i.e. we do not have to guide the qi or think of a particular path for the qi to flow. When yìniàn is placed on the part of the body that requires healing, qi will automatically follow its own path to that part of the body.
The second module in Zhineng Qigong, the Body Mind Form (Xing Shen Zhuang 形神庄), adopts the "movement attracts qi" method. This refers to using the body movements to stimulate the flow of qi in the meridians. The twelve meridians are linked to the respective zang organs (heart, liver, spleen, lungs and kidneys) and fu organs (gall bladder, stomach, salll intestines, large intestines and and other parts of the body. Hence, when body movement is increased in certain parts of the body, it stirs up the related meridian qi, which can be transported to various parts of the body, causing these body parts to be strengthened.
The third module of Zhineng Qigong, the Five One Form (Wu Yuan Zhuang 五元庄), adopts the "sound attracts qi" method. Producing different sounds, the qi within the body can be led to different parts of the body. For example, in Chinese phonetics (pinyin), the first two tones can cause the qi to move upwards; the last two tones can cause the qi to move downwards; words with the vowels "u" and "ü" which require the mouth to be closed can cause qi to be retained; and words without these vowels that require the mouth to be opened can cause qi to be released.
Lift Qi Up and Pour Qi Down is the first form of Zhineng Qigong and the basic form for the prevention and healing of illness. Through physical movements and the use of the mind, external qi is drawn into the body and internal qi is released. The quality and quantity of our bodily qi improve, and the pathways linking us to the qi of nature are opened. Even people with limited mobility or strength can practise it, since the use of the mind is more important than precision of movement. It is an external qi practice.
Body Mind Form is an internal qi practice that works on the skin, muscles, sinews, tendons and bones, and on the channels through which qi flows. The unification of body and mind / consciousness is important in the practise of this form. It has great benefits for health and makes the body stronger and more graceful. It also opens the channels so qi flows more smoothly. Its practice enhances mind power and abilities.
The Five One Form adopts the opening and closing of qi of the five internal organs (heart, liver, spleen / pancreas, lung and kidney) to integrate them at the hunyuan place to allow qi and mind to merge as one. This form uses the open-close and opening of qi orifices through the pronunciation of syllables.
